Taxis and hire vehicles

The Victorian Taxi Directorate (VTD) regulates the taxi and hire vehicle industries and issues Driving Instructor Authorities. The VTD is part of the Public Transport Division of the Department of Transport.

Catching a cab this summer? Remember to: Check that the taxi has a working EFTPOS machine. Always get an electronic receipt at the end of your trip. Prepay your fare between 10pm and 5am. Keep in mind that a driver can refuse to take you if you are violent, noisy, misbehaving, filthy, offensive or cannot pay your fare.
